For those of us who follow spirituality and conscious science, we have been aware of a great change, or crossroads, and most have expected it in the 2010-12 time frame. Some have pointed to the end of Mayan Calendars or other cultures' time writings, and prophets predictions and dreams. The spiritual scientists have known that the systems seem to point to this time for some kind of change, some shift of energy, some correction of course. In 2006 these scientists were discussing that we in America were at a crossroad, and our decisions would lead the balance of the world in one direction or another -- a bright future, where we prove we have learned our cosmic lessons and move toward enlightenment; or choose more the same, a darker future of war and limitation and separateness. But this time has been discussed, meditated upon, analyzed and imagined for at least four decades, if not more. Over this time small movements have organized, offering some kind of intention or meditation or energy shift in hopes to influence the choice for a the bright future.
Many among us viewed the "Yes we can" movement of our last election to be part of this positive push, though some have wondered if we strayed off course at times. But I think the events we are watching unfold in north Africa and the Mideast are part of the path to our bright future. Perhaps even the weather events are indications of the release of the frustration, oppression, fear, misguided power that have captured at one time or another most of the peoples of the planet. It is much like our pinned up frustration at our jobs, so we go to a movie where someone shoots up the very environment our repressed emotions want released from.
I applaud the people of Tunisia and Egypt and those who follow, in seeking their democratic identity. They are finding their voices, their personal power; they are growing up as citizens of the planet. True Democracy is for grown ups. At its core is a self-responsibility as well as communal self determinism, and a requirement for a self directed engagement in the process that doesn't stop with the ballot box. Leadership "by the people" only works if those people are willing to take their turn in serving the process, in a unselfish and humble manner, promoting the common good over individual gain.
And I am in aw of images of these multi-generational protesters with their signs in languages other than their own native, so that the camera can see their message directly from the source, not a spin by a reporter -- intentional or not. They want to be heard, and heard they are through social media and cellular communications when possible, as well through any other means. They have gotten the attention of the world, they are igniting something deep inside our conscience -- whether we live in a country who have enjoyed the liberty they call for, or in a country still yet to dream it -- and that is, how we are all connected through our basic humanness and need for respect, dignity, right to choose for oneself, to be responsible for ourselves and the actions of the larger society to which we choose to belong.
I watch these events with more hope and promise for a bright future for the people of the planet than ever before. In part because the crusty and controlling regimes that were based in fear, hate, revenge, terror, and personal gain are coming to an end. They are being ejected by the only people who could, those who lived under them. And from a higher perspective, I see this as the result of those little movements who have offered little positive pushes and thoughts and prayers over the decades. So let's not stop now, let's not be too busy to spend daily time in prayer, mediation or just our energy of love sending it out into this planet and it's people to be free. The next eighteen months may be a bit more active and bumpy than 'normal.' But when has a semester exam not been challenging or stressful?
